New Features and Updates

Background blur in Teams

Teams has added a new feature to video calls and meetings called, background blur. It’s exactly what it sounds like! There’s an option to blur the background of the location you are in, so the main focus of your video feed is you, not something that might be happening in the background. You can turn this feature off and on as needed in any video call you are in. Click here to learn more about this new feature.

3D Models and Screen Recording in PowerPoint

Two new features have arrived in PowerPoint to further your creative presentation skills. You can now insert 3D models from a file or an online source to enhance the topic you are teaching or conveying to your audience. You can also insert screen recordings right into your slide, so if you have a set of steps you’d like to demonstrate within a presentation, like how to turn in an assignment in Sakai, you can create a recording that lives within your presentation. There are so many options with these new tools, so click here to learn more about using 3D models and here to learn more about screen recordings within PowerPoint.

Microsoft announced new Office icon design

The Office applications, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are getting a new design to the icons we click on every day. A few other applications within Office 365 are getting updated icons as well as part of this shift to a more modern desktop experience. We expect the new icons to be updated within the next few months. This is the first time the icons have been updated in five years, so if you’d like to learn more about what the new icons will look like, click here to watch a video featuring them.
